Abstract : As part of the Project course, taught during the second semester of the third year of the Bachelor's Degree in Interior and Furniture Design at the School of Applied Arts, a final project was developed focusing on the field of Interior Design, integrating the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the academic programme. The project focuses on the rehabilitation of a former rural support building located at Quinta do Lombardo, in Castelo Branco, with the aim of transforming it into a welcoming, functional home adapted to the needs of its future occupants. The building benefits from a vast natural setting, which served as the foundation for a proposal centred on strengthening the relationship between the interior and the surrounding landscape. The intervention also sought to preserve the identity of the existing building while implementing solutions to improve habitability, comfort, and functionality. The main design decisions focused on the spatial organisation of the dwelling, establishing a clear distinction between the social and private areas while promoting a smooth and intuitive circulation between them. The proposal enhances natural lighting through the enlargement of existing openings and the creation of new glazed doors, while adopting a neutral colour palette and natural materials to reinforce the connection with the surrounding landscape. The spatial layout, together with the selection of materials, finishes, furniture, and artificial lighting, was carefully designed to ensure comfort, ergonomics, and visual coherence throughout the project. The intervention also extends to the outdoor space through the creation of a leisure area comprising a timber deck, a swimming pool, a barbecue area, and a supporting bathroom. These additions transform the exterior into an extension of the dwelling, providing an additional space for relaxation and social interaction. Within the scope of Furniture Design, a bespoke multifunctional piece was designed for the home office. The element combines several functions within a single composition, integrating a seating area with storage and display units. This solution was conceived to maximise the efficient use of space while promoting organisation, functionality, comfort, and aesthetic coherence. Overall, the proposal reflects an integrated approach to Interior and Furniture Design, demonstrating the ability to combine design concept, functionality, and aesthetics while responding to the users' needs without compromising the identity of the place. Keywords Renovation; Interior Design; Shed; Housing
