Abstract
Abstract: The purpose of this document is to present the proposal for the final project developed within the scope of the Project curricular unit, in the 2nd semester of the 3rd year of the Degree in Interior Design and Equipment, taught at the School of Applied Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco. The project focuses on the remodeling of the former Válega Health Extension, located in the municipality of Ovar, district of Aveiro. The main objective of this intervention is to convert the building, currently deactivated, into local accommodation, adapting the space to a new function of a tourist and residential nature. The proposal arises from the desire to enhance the architectural and cultural heritage of the parish of Válega, through a requalification that respects the memory of the place and, at the same time, meets the current demands of comfort, functionality, accessibility and sustainability. In this context, the project seeks to develop an interior design solution that combines modernity and tradition, creating a welcoming, aesthetically pleasing environment adapted to the needs of future users, promoting a unique and authentic stay experience. The project involved the renovation of the former Válega Health Extension, with the aim of converting it into a contemporary, comfortable and functional local accommodation. The intervention was based on an in-depth analysis of the historical, architectural and social context of the building, combined with the practical application of knowledge acquired during academic training. The concept was developed with inspiration from the cultural and aesthetic references of the town, namely through the integration of identity elements such as traditional tiles. The process included a detailed survey of the space, the preparation of several floor plans and the definition of a final proposal that includes six suites, a kitchen, a dining room, a laundry room and common areas. In addition to the spatial design, three-dimensional modelling was carried out and original equipment was developed for the reception area, designed to store luggage and, at the same time, to display local products, thus promoting the region's identity and economy. The work methodology followed Bruno Munari's principles, promoting a systematic and creative approach to solving design challenges. This project stood out due to the complexity of the functional reconversion and the proposed solutions, combining aesthetics, comfort and accessibility.
