Abstract
Abstract: This report addresses the activities carried out during the curricular internship within the scope of the Degree in Agronomy. The internship took place between March 8 and May 24, 2024. The chosen internship field was the Meltagus Association – Association of Beekeepers of the International Tagus Natural Park, and its activity focus lies in the dynamization and development of the beekeeping activity. The activities developed involved the collaboration in an awareness campaign about the Asian hornet; the participation in the activities of sterilization, purification, molding and packaging of wax; the monitoring and collaboration in health visits to apiaries; the development and application of an artisanal trap to capture Vespa velutina nigrithorax and the collaboration in the management of Meltagus apiaries, including the cresta. These activities enabled to acquire knowledge in the area of beekeeping and to recognize the importance of this sector as an economic, social and environmental guarantor in the national agricultural panorama. Threats such as the Vespa velutina nigrithorax, to which beekeeping, in general, and bees and other pollinating insects, in particular, are subject, was the motto to raise awareness of the importance of the need for its control and to investigate and develop strategies aiming to minimize the impacts associated with it.
