Abstract
Abstract : This report aims to describe the development of the final project by student Beatriz Cardoso, as part of her degree in Fashion and Textile Design. This work consisted of creating a collection of costumes for the romantic ballet La Sylphide, focusing on the fusion between theatrical aesthetics, the narrative of the piece and the ergonomic functionality required for stage performance. The choice of this theme was based on the student's personal interest in the world of spectacles, dance and, above all, the minute details that make up costumes. This project thus emerged as an opportunity to materialize this passion, exploring the delicacy and strength of costume design with its own identity. Throughout the project, objectives were defined centered on in-depth research of the piece and its characters, research into historical and contemporary references to ballet, the application of ergonomic principles in dance costumes and the experimentation with materials such as lace, embroidery and light textiles that ensure comfort and freedom of movement. Ten female costumes were developed, distributed among the main characters and secondary sylphs that represent symbolic elements of the enchanted forest. The work also involved creating mood boards, researching the target audience, analyzing the market, testing materials and technical sketches. This report aims to present the students creative, technical and reflective journey in a structured way, highlighting the process of building a collection that respects the world of ballet, while incorporating an original and updated vision of costume design.
