Abstract : This design project aims to investigate and develop an innovative textile upcycling proposal, rooted in the core principles of the circular economy and strategic design management. Given the environmental urgency and the ecological impact of the fashion industry, my proposal focuses on the deconstruction of deadstock classic men's shirts, garments characterized by high technical craftsmanship and material quality, to create a contemporary women's collection. The primary motivation behind this study lies at the intersection of my personal heritage and a distinct market opportunity. By repurposing high-quality shirt waste sourced from the legal profession, this project seeks to grant a new lease of life to premium garments that would otherwise be prematurely discarded due to minor defects. Strategically, the collection aims to address the aesthetic and identity needs of Gen Z and Millennials. As they enter the workforce, these generations look for alternatives to the rigidity of traditional tailoring, favoring a modern, current business-casual segment. Regarding my workflow, I chose to adopt Gui Bonsiepe's project-based methodology, structuring the process from initial problem definition and market analysis through to economic viability and production planning. The final output integrates into my own brand, "Ethereal Riot," whose identity offers a sensory experience that blends the technical rigor of tailoring with the exclusivity of signature, sustainable design. Through this approach, it becomes evident that we can actively intervene in a product's life cycle management, transforming deadstock and accumulated memories into a distinctive and economically viable value proposition.
