Abstract : Introduction: Cerebrovascular diseases currently represent the leading cause of mortality worldwide, and the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases has been affecting low-income countries, with high prevalence observed over the decades, affecting individuals under 70 years of age, mainly due to economic conditions and lifestyle (1,2). They are described as disorders of the heart and blood vessels and include coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, and peripheral vascular disease (3). It is estimated that more than four out of five deaths from cerebrovascular diseases are due to cardiac events, with one-third of these deaths occurring in young adults (4). Cerebrovascular diseases represent the leading cause of global mortality, with approximately 17.9 million deaths each year, representing 32% of all deaths worldwide, predominantly in developing countries (3) Objective: To assess the prevalence of the main cerebrovascular risk factors in the adult population residing on the island of Boa Vista, Cape Verde. Methods: Cross-sectional and quantitative study based on random cluster sampling and non-probabilistic technique with a sampling error for the prevalence study of 4%, based on data collection and a 95% confidence level. Sample collected randomly by cluster from the population of Boa Vista Island. Results: The most prevalent risk factors on Boa Vista Island were: 53% orthostatic hypotension, 22.2% alcoholism, 13.4% hypertension, 9.5% diabetes, 4.4% smoking, 3.5% hypercholesterolemia, 2.2% obesity, 0.2% hypertriglyceridemia. Conclusion: According to the study, it was possible to observe that there is a significant percentage of cerebrocardiovascular risk factors on Boa Vista Island, affecting both sexes and people aged 28-77 years.
