Abstract
Abstract: The knowledge that culture in Portugal is severely lacking in support is widespread, and particularly peripheral regions face a notorious lack of support. Among these is the Algarve. The region's economy is heavily centered on tourism, which to some extent hides its rich culture, heritage, local traditions and ancestral knowledge. From the coast to the mountains, from east to west, there are many kilometers of culture to discover and uncover. With almost 5,000 square kilometers of history and more than 444,000 people living there, the region, bathed by the Atlantic, has a great diversity of history, culture and crafts. The Algarve is much more than a tourist destination; it is a territory with identity, knowledge and expression. This is why this project aims to develop a collection of accessories inspired by the cultural heritage of the southern part of Portugal, contributing to its appreciation, preservation and reintegration into a contemporary context. Through the use of local materials, handicraft techniques and aesthetic references and elements, the aim is to combine functionality and contemporary design in a proposal that celebrates the region and brings it to a wider audience. To this end, a collection of accessories has been developed using Alfarroba.Tex materials and sustainable leathers, such as suede, and for a conscious and ethical public who are interested in art and culture. The aim is to honor the Algarve region and its tradition, materializing it in a collection of bags and purses.
