Cuidados veterinários em animais de companhia

Abstract

Ao longo deste estágio, houve a possibilidade de participar em diferentes atividades inerentes à rotina de uma Clínica Veterinária de referência, como é a Clínica Veterinária Patas e Pelos, situada na Quinta do Conde, em Sesimbra. Durante todo o período de estágio houve a oportunidade de observar e integrar os vários serviços clínicos, nomeadamente, consultas, internamento, cirurgia e unidade de cuidados intensivos. Foi permitido participar ativamente nas consultas, auxiliar a equipa veterinária no exame geral do animal, realizar exames complementares de diagnóstico e auxiliar a equipa médica na elaboração do melhor plano terapêutico. No internamento e cuidados intensivos era realizada a monitorização do estado geral do paciente bem como a administração de fármacos prescritos pelo Médico Veterinário, e eram realizados todas as atividades de modo a contribuir para o bem-estar do animal. Na cirurgia, organizava-se o material no bloco operatório, apoiava-se a cirurgiã durante a cirurgia e fazia-se a monitorização pós-operatória do animal. O presente relatório resulta de todo o trabalho realizado no âmbito dos cuidados de animais de companhia, durante o período de estágio curricular, que decorreu entre 20 de janeiro a 16 de março e de 5 de maio a 19 de junho. Durante estes períodos acompanharam-se 609 animais, 365 canídeos e 244 felídeos. Assim, neste relatório é descrito o local de estágio, procedendo-se a uma breve apresentação das infraestruturas e dos equipamentos e é feita a descrição das diversas atividades desenvolvidas e de alguns casos clínicos acompanhados. Este estágio foi um extraordinário contributo, vindo complementar todo o percurso do Curso Técnico Superior Profissional de Cuidados Veterinários, aproximando assim, este percurso da realidade da Clínica e Cirurgia de Animais de Companhia. Abstract: Throughout this internship, there was the possibility of participating in different activities inherent to the routine of a reference Veterinary Clinic, such as the Clínica Veterinária Patas e Pelos, located at Quinta do Conde, in Sesimbra. Throughout the internship period there was the opportunity to observe and integrate the various clinical services, namely consultations, hospitalization, surgery and intensive care unit. It was allowed to participate actively in the consultations, assist the veterinary team in the general examination of the animal, perform complementary diagnostic tests and assist the medical team in the preparation of the best therapeutic plan. In the internment and intensive care it was accomplished the monitoring of the general state of the patient as well as the administration of medicines prescribed by the Veterinary Doctor, and all the activities were accomplished in order to contribute to the welfare of the animal. In the surgery, the material was organized in the operating room, the surgeon was supported during the surgery and the postoperative monitoring of the animal was done. This report results from all the work performed in the care of pets, during the internship period, which ran from January 20 to March 16 and from May 5 to June 19. During these periods 609 animals, 365 dogs and 244 cats were followed. Thus, this report describes the place of internship, giving a brief presentation of the infrastructure and equipment and describes the various activities developed and some clinical cases followed. This internship was an extraordinary contribution, coming to complement the whole course of the Veterinary Care Professional Superior Technical Course, thus bringing this course closer to the reality of the Clinic and Surgery of Company Animals.
