Abstract : Introduction: Stroke is the main cause of mortality and prolonged physical disability in Portugal. Often, associated with this disability, users are no longer able to conduct their activities of daily living autonomously, becoming dependent on others. This is where the informal caregiver comes in, a person who suddenly, without preparation or training, will have to learn how to care. This major change in your life sometimes leads to tension, anxiety, and depression. The nurse has the key role of not only acting to avoid these complications but also training for safer and more effective care practice in the post-discharge moment. Objectives: The general objective is to "understand nursing care for the informal caregiver of the person with stroke". Materials and Methods: A narrative review of the literature was carried out through searches on the following platforms: SciELO, RCAAP and PubMed. Results and Discussion: The 12 articles included in the review show the importance of the nurse as an active agent in the support, education, and training of the informal caregiver of the person with stroke. Among the main nursing interventions, three fields stand out: the education and training of the informal caregiver, the planning of the transition to the home and emotional support and psychological support. Conclusion: Through the scientific evidence analyzed, it was possible to conclude that the intervention of the nurse with the informal caregiver of the person with stroke is multifaceted and requires an approach adapted to the complexity of the case. The nurse's approach should be holistic and interactive, considering physical, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. To this end, it is essential to develop critical and reflective thinking, adapting interventions to the specific needs of each caregiver, with the main objective of maximizing their self-management capacity and minimizing complications.
