Abstract : Introduction: The increased prevalence of ostomies associated with population aging, the growing incidence of oncological diseases, especially colorectal cancer and other pathologies, have placed new challenges on health systems, requiring responses in terms of specialized follow-up, prevention of complications, and promotion of quality of life for ostomy patients, highlighting the importance of evidence-based and person-centered nursing care. Considering the physical, psychological, and social impact of this condition, the importance of nursing care in empowering ostomy patients to manage self-care, prevent complications, and improve their quality of life is emphasized. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of nursing interventions in promoting self-care in people with intestinal stomas, by identifying the factors that influence self-care and adaptation to the stoma. It also aims to describe the implications of an intestinal stoma on the daily life of a person with a stoma, identifying the nursing interventions used to promote self-care in this individual. Methods: The research methodology selected was a narrative literature review, proceeding with the search and analysis of scientific articles related to the role of nurses in promoting self-care in people with intestinal stomas. The search was conducted in various scientific databases, using specific descriptors and previously defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. This methodology allowed us to gather and analyze the available scientific knowledge on the subject, identify the factors that influence self-care and adaptation to stoma care, as well as understand the importance of nursing interventions in promoting the autonomy and quality of life of the person with a stoma. Results: In conclusion, adaptation to an intestinal stoma is a complex process, influenced by multiple physical, psychological, and social factors, in which self-care plays a fundamental role in promoting autonomy, preventing complications, and improving quality of life. In this context, the nurse stands out as a key element, through the implementation of educational interventions, support, and continuous monitoring, empowering the ostomized person to manage their health condition autonomously and effectively. Thus, nursing care based on scientific evidence and centered on individual needs proves crucial for successful adaptation and for promoting the well-being of the person with an intestinal stoma.
